Be wary of one architect or architecture firm that assures you they can do something in the design that everyone else has indicated is not a good idea. Often when more than two experienced professionals are advising against a specific plan or design there is a good reason.

Many architects and architectural firms carry professional liability insurance that offers protection to both themselves and the client. If the company or architect that you are planning on using does not carry insurance, how will any financial issues be handled in the event of a problem?

When you first interview or meet with the architect, be prepared to do most of the talking. The architect will ask lots of questions to help him or her understand your needs and requirements for the project. They will also want to get to know a bit about you, to help with overall understanding of what you are looking for.
