Rolling garage doors, especially those with automatic openers can often be an easy point of entry for thieves and vandals. Remember too that if you have an attached garage gaining entry to the garage will allow them to get into the house. When leaving for longer periods add additional locks or braces to both large and walk in garage doors.

Plants can also be an easy and beautiful deterrent for thieves. Consider planting large roses or other low level thorny or very dense vegetation to the area right around the windows. Don't allow the plants to obstruct the window, just provide a thorny hedge to the bottom of the glass.

Keeping burglar from knowing what is in your house will prevent the temptation to break in. Heavy drapery rather than sheer curtains are always better at preventing those on the outside from seeing in. Keep windows on doors either frosted or curtained to close this line of sight into your home.
