When interviewing painting contractors ask if they belong to a National Association, such as, Painting & Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA), The Better Business Bureau, or other nationally recognized trade associations.
A reputable painting contractor will offer a warranty or guarantee for the work they do. Discuss the terms of the warranty with the contractors you interview before you award the job and be sure to get a copy of the warranty in writing before the contractor begins work.
Ask your painting contractor what procedures he follows to dispose of hazardous wastes. Solvents and other chemicals should never be poured down the drains and there are state and federal laws governing the disposal of these chemicals.
